About Us

Note from the Chairman

The Lostock Residents Group was formed on 11th September 2001 - an inauspicious date, but the Hotel had been booked, arrangements had been made so we had to go ahead. I remember that we had a minute's silence before the meeting began.

The initial motivation for forming the Group was that a number of developments had been proposed which seemed out of keeping with the surrounding properties. They were overpowering to the street scene, and would cause traffic problems. Many proposals for development in Lostock depended on creating a medium sized building plot by removing trees (and the wildlife they supported) and even on demolishing perfectly habitable buildings. The replacements which were proposed demeaned the area. Lostock

Another aspect of concern has been traffic management in the area. For example, we lobbied successfully for traffic lights at the Glengarth Drive / Beaumont Road junction and lights are now in place. We are still seeking a similar improvement at the junction of Regent Road / Chorley New Road.
was starting to become a target for unscrupulous developers, keen to desecrate the area for huge profits, while putting little back into the community. We feel that we have provided a link whereby the residents can support each other, to encourage projects of quality and character, thus ensuring that more developments preserve the best of Lostock.

We are currently trying to secure improvements in the car parking arrangements at Lostock Station, where the overspill parking is creating hazards on neighbouring roads.

Mobile phone masts have been another area of concern to residents. At a more fundamental level, we successfully campaigned for a replacement for the overburdened Regent Road sewer.

This Website is in addition to our paper communications and will not replace either the Newsletter or the alert letters relating to any planning applications which are brought to our attention by concerned neighbours. Everyone will still receive an individual hand-delivered Newsletter. The whole area (1400 households) will continue to receive alert letters for major issues. For more localised issues, the website will enable residents to see what is going on outside their immediate area.

We would welcome feedback on any aspect of the Group’s activities, including this website.

You can email us on lostockresidentsgroup@googlemail.com.

If any residents wish to receive information by email, we will be happy to add you to email list. See latest Newsletter.

In summary the function of our Committee is as follows:

To oppose inappropriate development.
To support development which is considered appropriate.
To support improvements in the infrastructure i.e., traffic management, new traffic lights additional car parking at Lostock Junction Station.
To improve sewerage and drainage.
To help define floodplains by discussions with the Environment Agency.
To minimise or object to new Mobile Phone Masts in inappropriate areas or encourage owners to share facilities.
To support the Supplementary Planning Guidance (2003). To support the Tree and Woodland Officers of BMBC in protecting trees both inside and outside the Conservation Areas and the Flora and Fauna of the area.
To protect the Green Belt and Greenfield Sites.

We must emphasise that we are an apolitical group, with no party affiliations. We have to be; we distribute letters and Newsletters to approximately 1400 householders who are of all political persuasions. We also ask for support from the BMBC Planning Committee, who is, at the moment of roughly equal political persuasions.
